Mr. Rudloff is very excited about what is happening and is looking for State interest in this project. The State may connect them with other sources. He was interviewed by a Chinese newspaper and talked to a Chinese architect today. He met with the Chinese consul last week. His intent is to develop “an expanded Chinese village”. He is looking for interested appropriate Chinese businesses and hopes to secure an architect to begin to sketch out what the village may look like and get input from local groups and the Chinese community. He has 89 possible grant sources that might be available for the project. Paul said that the City is assisting in identifying property and owners that might be available for involvement in the project.

The Temple qualifies for grants with the National Park Service ($300,000) to restore the Temple. Dan has set up an itinerary for Sacred Sites for the Bok Kai Parade weekend. Dr. Chace a lecture on March 8 at the Packard Library building. They will take a tour of China Town on Sunday.
B. Gary: Welcome to the Chinese community members present.
C. Phil: Glad to see so many people present.
D. George Chan: Why are there two different groups (Yuba County Historical Society/Friends of the Bok Kai)?
Billie explained that five non-profits including the Historical Society came together and created Friends. George asked what had been accomplished in the lat two years. Much has been accomplished including emergency repairs, securing the roof, replacing floor covering, and bracing of the Temple walls.
E. David and Jean: stated that they appreciated the Committee's work on the Temple. Since he was elected in the last year, he understands what we have been doing. He asked Dan to attend this meeting so we can all work together for the same goal. Phil stated that in the last 2 years 100% more has been accomplished than what has been done in the last 50 years.
F. Billie stated that the agricultural group at MHS chose the Temple to spotlight at the State Fair booth. Committee members volunteered to man the booth and passed out 1000 brochures regarding the Temple.
G. Frank Nam: Mr. Nam would like to set aside a portion of the Silver Dollar for artifacts from old China town, family letters, anything like that. Members are welcome to see the area that he has set aside.
H. Jean: Red books will be ordered to sell at the booth.
I. Jerry Rudloff: His group will not be in competition but may be able to raise interest in the Chinese Community and all things Chinese.
J. George: Thanked everyone for coming and for topics and conversation brought up.
K. Gary Price: Encouraged by engagement of groups with a common interest. We might want to consider placing the Historical Society reference on the agenda for every meeting and the Friends on the Historical Society agenda also.
L. Paul: The two groups may have several different ideas about what to do but come together under one umbrella/one interest. We need to bring all groups together under the umbrella of Friends to acquire funds to go the Temple preservation.

IX.  Adjournment. 7:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Denise Haines
Secretary
Next meeting: February 24, 2003 6 p.m. at City Hall
