VI. Guest Speakers:
Lew Hudspeth: The beam with metal bracing is ready to be replaced when ARG decides what to do. They covered the roof when it rained but had no leakage. ARG just had the mason look at the mortar which has deteriorated. There are places where there is no mortar any longer. It is stable now. The pressure is now off the east column. The columns will take about three weeks once they are ordered. Billie said that ARG will be here Thursday. A couple of weeks ago Lew presented a list of additional things that needed to be done. They have already put in the CAP and bracing discussed that was discussed.
Billie: $3600 and $5000 is what is owed currently? Sister Cities donated $4500. The Chinese Community will donate $3600. $5000 is currently due but Lew said there is still some work that hasn't been invoiced, will wait for that to bill. They are ready to go on the columns once they get word from ARG. The mason felt the bracing was very safe.
Billie: ARG sent some invoices which she gave to Dave Lamon. He felt that the City could pay part of it.
Athena: Dave said about $6000 could be paid out of planning.
Athena: ARG just completed suggestions on masonry work that needs to be done beneath the mural. She has a copy of the resume and news blurbs on the mason who visited the site and who ARG feels is best for stabilization. Presented a report from David Wessell, ARG, with suggested procedure of preserving the mural during the wall restoration. Currently working up a cost estimate which should be ready tomorrow.
George: Did ARG suggest this person? No other suggestions?
Athena: D. Wessell/ARG, recommended this individual.
George: would probably be a good idea to contact others.
Lew: ARG assembles experts and his impression is that they assemble the groups based on experience. Athena will talk further with ARG for recommendations and we can contact others. We need at least three company bids to choose from.
Billie: Lew is losing money because things are moving slowly and he is keeping one of his workers available. Do we have a timeline for him so he can do other jobs?
Athena: Lew is done at this point. When it is time to place the columns he will need to come back in.
Athena: Historic structure report will address the style of the column but we will have that information before the report is completed.

d.  Chinese Community: $3600 on Lew's bill.

2.  Tour June 29, 2002: Tour group from the bay area will be here at 11 a.m. to tour the temple. George asked that committee members be present. We will invite Dirk Helder or Paul McNamara to be present at the tour and luncheon. George will send the group restaurant information so they can choose where they would like to have lunch.

VIII.  Comments from the floor:
A.  Athena: Dave Lamon questioned how much was done by the art conservator, it could be considered planning and paid by the Historical Society Trust.
Billie: Lucky Yang sent a list of names of people who might be able to help fundraiser. Paul Chace is willing but fall would be best for him but before the holidays. He will donate his time if we pay for lodging and meals. The Arts Council seats 200; they may need a donation to use the facility.
Wally Hagaman: Asked if we had 501C status, we have applied. Wally suggested we use postcards for those requests for photos. We can get 500 color postcards for $100. Said that he can produce a brochure for us but needs some information to put in it. Asked if we have a decent guide. He is willing to come on board for special projects only. The postcards can be sold wholesale to gift shops. For out tour groups we need to choose a restaurant that reflects quality and good food and hopefully is supporting the project. Suggested complimentary membership for gratis work. We need a collection conservator but we need the Federal ID first. Artifacts should be inventoried soon.
David: The Chinese Community does not want anything removed from the Temple.
